Alan Smith, Radio Officer, 1943 - 1946

 

Born on February 1st, 1927, Alan Smith gained his ticket at the Wireless College, Colwyn Bay, Flintshire, North Wales, and on August 18, 1943, he joined the Shahzada, an East Asiatic Steam Navigation Co. ship bound for Calcutta.

Three months later, on December 18, Alan transferred to the British India vessel Sir Harvey Adamson, in Calcutta. This vessel plied the Arakan Coast, and later the Colombo to South India run.

On October 26th, 1944, he transferred to the British India vessel Chyebassa in Colombo. Alan returned to the UK in June 1946 for discharge.

He is now living in Lima, Peru.
