Merchant Navy Radio Officers

John fb Davies, Radio Officer, 1942-1951

John fb Davies trained at Caswell Bay Radio College. His seaman number was S11048. When he did his first trip, he was just under 16 years of age.

He served on the Norwegian Notraship tankers, M.T. Skandinavia and M.T. Kaldfonn as 3rd Radio Officer. He also served a a Dutch vessel, SS Jaarstroom, which was a supply vessel to the British Pacific Fleet (HMS Maidstone).

When the war finished, he took post war courses at Earls Court Radio College, and the British School of Wireless Telegraphy, Brixton. He then served on a cargo passenger ship, SS Ann Marie, and then on BTC Cross Channel vessels (Dover/Folkestone Fleet), including Folkestone Radio. He was later with Partisheadradio and Landsendradio (GLD).

From 1953-87, he served overseas in various capitals as H.M. Diplomatic Service Officer.
