Wartime Merchant Navy, a site by Gordon Mumford concerning World War II Merchant Marine Experiences

 Merchant Navy Radio Officers

Certificate of Proficiency in Radiotelegraphy

Like all radio officers trained during the war, Gordon Mumford obtained a "special certificate" when he took his initial training in 1942. While he was on the Empire Harmony, the Chief Radio Officer helped Gordon and the other junior radio officer with their studies. When he returned to Britain, he sat for the examination for a permanent certificate, which he obtained in September 1944. His original certificate was lost when the Empire Path sank that December, and was  replaced in January 1945.

This booklet is 4.5 x 6.5-inches when folded. The heavy cover is black, but the gold lettering has faded.
