Hardinge Street, 1950: Photographs below were taken on March 31, 1950, during a pageant to commemorate the birth of a city. The Duke of Gloucester proclaimed Nairobi a Charter City. This ceremony was followed by a parade depicting the history of the city. The photos of the parade were taken from the upper floor of Corner House, Hardinge Street

Delamere Avenue, 1951: Photographs probably taken on November 11, 1951, showing the twin War Memorials dedicated to the fallen members of the Carrier Corps and the King's African Rifles. The monuments were in Delamere Avenue outside the Theatre Royal and near Cafe Vienna, nearly opposite the Standard Bank of South Africa. Torrs Hotel is on the corner, just down from the Cafe Vienna.
