A Trip to the Nile in 1952–1953

The following photographs were taken on a trip to the Nile. Passengers travelled from Nairobi by train to Nakuru where there was an overnight stop. The following day, the train took them through Eldoret to Namasagali (Uganda) on Lake Kioga. There, we transferred to a lake ferry across Lake Kioga to Masindi Port. Then, we went by coach to Butiaba on Lake Albert. From Butiaba, we took the Robert Coryndon (a lake steamer) to Pakwatch at the lakehead. We then sailed up the Nile River on the Lugard II, a sternwheeler, calling in at Rhino Camp and Laropi, and finally Nimule on the Sudan border.
