HMCS Chilliwack

The photographs below are from the collection of Wilson Reginald McMurdo, who served on the
HMCS Chilliwack, during World War 2 (supplied by his son, Scott McMurdo).

HMCS Chilliwack was one of the escort assigned to Convoy ONS-154 in December 1942.
This corvette, along with the destroyer St. Laurent, and the corvettes Battleford, and Napanee
were credited with the sinking of U-356 on December 27, 1942.

On March 6, 1944, the Chilliwack, along with Chaudiere, Fennel, Gatineau, and St. Catharines,
were involved in the sinking of the U-744. The HMCS Chilliwack sent a boarding party to the sinking U-744
There is a painting in the Canadian War Museum called "The Boarding of the U-744"
which was painted in 1944 by Tom Wood (1913-1997).
